Default Yard treatment

Anyone have any recommendations to which yard treatment company is good and does an excellent job with your yard. I have seen so many in my neighborhood and it gets confusing. My yard is fescue grass but is currently overrun by weeds. Any suggestions or experiences from those that uses such services is greatly appreciated.

This belongs in Wisconsin S2k's "Read or Die" thread;-)

I do my own - go to Home Depot and buy the Lesco brand. It is half the price of Scott's or Vigoro and it works great. Lesco is the one of the top suppliers of care products to golf courses. But they will take the time to talk to homeowners on the phone.

Sh$t, I have tried doing it myself. Still get weeds no matter what. I have wasted money on it. It is annoying to deal with. My neighbor has bermuda grass and it is beautiful. I think Top turf does theirs but he said the weekly treatment is expensive. $125 a month I think? He said he is happy but believes they could do a lot more for what he is paying them.

Mulder, thank you for honoring my hero, the greatest gadget inventor that ever lived.

For you other guys, forget the lawns, by a Popeil product, or better yet go drive your S.

In the South, fescue needs to be planted in the Fall, do it now and 1) the June heat will fry it because it has not established a root structure, or 2) crabgrass will invade and conquer it. Either way, crabgrass wins, you lose. Trust me I learned this the hard way.

Bermuda is a completly different animal than fescue -- much better adapted tot he South than fescue, a Yankee import.

I'm using a great company in Charlotte called "Secure Turf". I got a year-long treatment/seeding contract for about $900, and that includes a shrub maintenance program. The lawn alone was around $500/year (does not include mowing)

You should be able to find something similar in price. $125/mo is high unless it's also mowing/trim/leaf removal, then it's pretty much right on what the market charges. Good luck!
