could be any reason, to cover prep or shipping cost, maybe a certian material went up in price, maybe Mr. Honda wants to retire next year.... who knows.

Well, even if everything else stayed the same, when the s came out in 1999, it took about 110 yen to buy a dollar, now it takes closer to 120.

Yes, I think they made this to show off too. Even if they "lose" money on the s, it may be worth it for prestige, free press, and subsidizing engine development costs for other cars in the future.
