When Joe montana was first being touted for the Heisman At Notre dama, an LA Times sportswriter said "Too bad Joe isn't from Fontana. We had the great running back, Presto Podesto from Modesto. Joe Montana from Fontana would be terrific."
In 1979, he flew down from Portland for a job interview. I hired him on the spot. It was on a Friday in February. Mrs. Raptor and I were scheduled to fly to Billings, Montana the next day to see and shoot a total eclipse of the sun on Monday(our first, we've since seen several). The weather forecast was for blizzard through Monday and we were thinking about cancelling out. He had seen a total eclipse and was going to fly back to Portland and catch it from Vancouver, Washington. He said "No, don't cancel. What if you miss it? You'll never forgive yopurself." We flew into Billings Saturday morning -- whiteout. Sunday -- whiteout. Weather forecast for Monday: chances of clear sky improved from 10
