There has to be some GMT or professional development you could be doing
Yes there is! I've done a lot of those little SkillSoft programs. But NSSC's (Naval Submarine Support Command) weekend support staff got tasked with doing a readdressal on a message Squadron 17 sent out on a recent ORSE. I guess the USS Alaska needs it really bad. Unfortunately, nobody on NSSC's weekend staff works in communications and consequently don't know how to do it. So they call me asking for help. This is something that's easy to do, but difficult to explain over the phone, especially to somebody who is unfamiliar with Turboprep and message formatting. I wish they had done this earlier in the week when their comms guys were in, or just wait until Monday. I'd bet $1,000 it can wait, but they won't let it.

And it amazes me that in 2005, (It's almost the spammin' Jetsons here people) that we use a program that was written for Win 3.11 or maybe Win 95.

My IT's and I have an agreement. I write it in word, and they put it in Turboprep and sent it.

I also agree that it could probably wait. That "the sky is falling" mentality really pisses me off at times.

I don't mind helping out. But NSSC has their own comms guys, it would be different if it was somebody from a command who doesn't have their own comms support. I would tell them to just call in one of their comms guys from home, but I know it's not their comms guys fault. Plus I know what a shitty feeling it is to get a phone call from work on a weekend or in the middle of the night. Been there, done that. But it's the sky is falling mentality that you mentioned that irritates me the most.
