Default Advice please

If you were in your early twenties would you give up everything and move overseas?
To clarify my situation at the moment I'll fill you in on a few details.
I'm 23 and work in our family business, long hours very stressfull but pays well and great fringe benefits. Other than that life is great, great friends family and the S2000. But since I've been back i've made numerous attempts to obtain Visa's to move back ( both applictions were not accepted as I was under 21 yrs.) Haven't been to the States for two years now but there are so many things I miss about it that are hard to describe.
This isn't meant to be some serious thread so feel free to whore. I just would like some other peoples opinions and thoughts. As I am rather perplexed by the whole thing
Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

Pete.

i've seriously thought about it...I made a plan. First, I pay off debts and while doing that I go and finish an undergrad degree. By that time the s2k is paid off too and I have money saved up so I can just pick up everything and git on out.

not for me....I can't even stand living in a college 400 miles away from home, I need to live in where I used to live for a long time....but thats only for me, because I am a very "un open" person...I just don't want to gone through the time that everythings are all new and need time to get used to. eventually if you move to somewhere and live there for a long time, that place will be more like home to you.

certainly move to somewhere far away is a very fun idea.

Even after the offer to whore in here I thought I would give you some serious comments first.

I have lived overseas from my home country (England) in Hong Kong and Tokyo for the last 9 years.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Just out of curiosity did you choose to move over James or was it something that was work/career related? I had a job offer from a guy in northern California but was pressured out of it due to the family business, and I also prefer Ohio only because I'm still familiar with the surroundings and have kept in contact with people from there. Also have you found it rewarding and challenging? I don't want to get into the same pattern as I have here where I work long hours and have little social life or time to take regular holidays.

I would have to agree with Martin - do it now or you will probably have some regrets later. I tried to get a position in Singapore when my son was really small, and it didn't work out. I still wish I had forced a way to live abroad for at least a little while.

As for Ohio, well .... hmmm. Since I moved from one beautiful state (Colorado) to the most beautiful state (California) and have refused to leave since, I'm obviously too opinionated to be taken seriously there.

Get on that plane and c'mon over!!

Sounds like a few people have done similar things.
I think I'll apply for a Visa and see how I go, but I'll probably head over in August if I can get the time off and check things out.
I think the biggest problem for me will be the opposition from family and co-workers, my job description is very broad so it would leave heaps of gaps to be filled.
Best thing about the Visa is that I can choose to go back after a minimum of twelve months and still retain the Visa so long as I go back to the States within 12 months.

Thanks again for all the advice from everyone, I'll keep you posted.

Now I must teach myself the finer art of whoring so that I may to become a whore. (I hear that it looks great on your resume.)

Pete.

well, i told my friends/family my plans to move and they weren't too excited about it, but told me they'd support me in whatever I think is best for myself.

if you come here, don't bother with the rest of the crappy place, move to california

and yes, whoring is good on the resume. it shows that you work so hard you have enough time to fawk around on message boards
