I've read somewhere that the piranhas will eventually turn on themselves or is it only the black piranhas.

Only if they are hungry. Keep them well feed and they will even live with other fish.

ahh, makes sense. how many feedings do you have? Must get expensive after a while. I have a 40 gal. saltwater tank myself, but was seriously thinking of getting a piranha tank prior.

Cost changes depending on what you feed them. They get fed every week or two. We switch it up between beef heart and goldfish. The gold fish get spendy....we buy 50 or so at a time for .$25 each. The beef heart only costs about $3 and will last awhile. Slice it up and freeze what you don't need at the time.

Free kittens and little kids also help out on the wallet.

I wouldn't give them roadkill.....you want to make sure the meat is not contaminated. Never feed them cooked meat either.

I should have mentioned that as babies they ate brine shrimp, blood worm, and beef heart that was in cube form and ground up.

I was kidding about the roadkill. I understand the finicky feedings of fish. I have an scallop and I have to feed it using a dropper.
