Billy you're reading the news too much. FLA and OH aren't deciding any more than Indiana or Cali. If Cali changed it's vote it would impact the election just as much. When there is a tie in the Senate and the VP comes to vote... he (/she) doesn't determine the outcome any more than any one of the Senators who voted... otherwise there wouldn't be a tie... etc.
I was referring more to historical monarchs of the time of our independance from England, who often ruled absolutely with only a legion of fairly agreeable nobles to slow him down. Modern monarchies are not all that different from our system; Canada and England are both good examples.

You're right, in a way - however the EC marginalizes most states, which was my point. The states that, for whatever reason, have come to have a near 50% split between conservative minds and liberal minds, ultimately have a greater impact on the surprise of the election results. Nobody is questioning Indiana or California's outcome.

Apparently, it's just a question of Kerry conceding at this point.

Apparently, Florida isn't the center of voting controversy like in 2000.
