Instead of taking my Horn in for chem cleans, I'll just dip them in Coke for 5 minutes, and if there's extreme grime, coat and dab with Taco Bell Fire Sauce. Then, RINSE RINSE RINSE for about 5 minutes straight under running tepid water.

For my trumpet, I just dip the valves for 3 minutes in Coke, rinse, then soak in Al Cass for 15 minutes, then put back into the instrument - but I rarely play trumpet, so I don't have to do it all that often.

On my cornet (115 year old Besson), when I got it, I buffed with a Dremel wire brush, then just use Al Cass twice as often as I would on my Trumpet or Horn.
