So why did I get 18000 on the OEM's but tnow have 11000 on 17" '03s and they are nearing death?

Could it be the +1 Mitch?

Alot of it is because tread wear number in reality mean absolutely nothing. They have no direct formula that is an industry standard, so they vary greatly. Hence, a tire from Brand A with treadwear of 180 is usually not the same as Brand B tire with a 180 treadwear. They are all derived from what the manufacturing company wants to put on the tires. Unfortunately, this can also be influenced by marketing and can confuse those that do not know as much as they thought they did about tires. In summary, treadwear ratings should be taken with a grain of salt, and realize they are only a small indicator of how the tire SHOULD wear. No guarantees though. Food for thought.

Mike, your plus 1 conversion also might have a little bit to do with it.....when I had the 18 inch S03 on the back of my S2000 they wore faster as well.....

Mike, what Mitch said is right. Within the same brand, the numbers can usually be directly compared. However, the testing to establish the UTQG rating is only done on a handful of sizes (2 or 3 is common), so the different sizes will wear at different rates, etc. And a lot depends on what you do with the tire, too. A hard day of driving in the twisties can wear as much as 2000 miles of interstate driving.

As a whole, the UTGC number is utterly and totally meaningless for a performance tire.

18,000 miles from an S02 is phenomenal, which tells me you either babied the car or drove in a straight line the whole time. 11,000 on an S03 is a median wear rate.

Thanks BIlly! Well I did baby her in the beginning until she got hurt! because at 18000 miles the OEMs were as BALD as me, I waited too long to replace them, and had a bad slide in the rain!

Oh well time to order new rears!

Woohoo! Raining again.

We had 3-4" overnight, flash flood warning in effect all morning. KICKASS!
