As the article says, the supernova remains are estimated to be about 28,000 light years away, near the center of the Milky Way. Very similar to Cassiopeia A in 2004:



Yeah, the names are often very weird and reflect multiple astronomers claiming first observation and naming rights. Thanks, Wick.
