Thumbs down ATTN: S202O!

What do you think of the Trek 5200? They got em at the Livermore Cyclery on sale for $1,999 and the Trek 5000 for $1,499...

I tested the 5200 but need to get used to road bikes.

I rode my MB 22 miles yesterday and it beat me up!

that's about 24% off from MSRP - pretty good (only if it's 2006 model. You should be able to get more discount from 2005 or older).
If this is your first road bike, get it from a bike shop b/c the fitting is more important than just about everything else.
gettting from a local bike shop (LBS) is also better because
If parts need to be swapped to ensure proper fitting, usually done at no/minimal charge.
should have free maintenance for a year (if not life time - some bike shops offer this).
problems arising the first few months (unless you're a seasoned rider and know how to fix bikes, an expensive bike should be serviced by a shop)

also, try to get a reduction on accessories on the same day (frame pump, extra tubes, patch kit, water bottle & cage, etc).

If you get the bike, let me know. We'll go climb Mount Diablo together sometime.

They said you get 10% off accessories for a year. I figured the web is probably cheaper for those though...

The 5200 seems noticably lighter than the 5000 and I read it's the same frame Lance used in his 1st tour de France win...

Well I'll keep looking into it. The Trek discount seems pretty big right now. And I'll be selling enough stock to buy 2 5200's on the 15th!

I purchase a new bike a month ago. The local bike shop undercharged me by $500. I caught the mistake and called them the next day. You'd think they throw in some free stuff but Nooooo. Not even a thank you.
Doesn't matter though b/c they got some great stuff in that shop

Funny we only get those calls when we overcharge someone.
