The only cure I know is to share extra-curriculars with the guys you like. I was always less intimidated by girls that I had something in common with.

Love will find you most likely when you're not looking for it, babester. That's just the way it is.
Actually, you ask a good question. It comes down to the kind of girl you are. IMO, a lot of great guys I've known over the years (some of my best friends even) were very nervous or awkward about competing for women. I always felt it was their loss... Not to say it's easy being a chick, but it ain't easy being a guy either. Be patient.
