The author (Neil McCormick) dreamed of being a global rock phenomenon. . . but he went to Mount Temple Prepatory with some douchebag named Paul Hewson.

Paul starts some rinky-dink Irish band, while the author goes on to some of the greatest near-misses with fame and fortune (and sex, and drugs, and bad haircuts) in the Irish and English Rock scene.

I'm about halfway through the book; it's a great read about the era.

I may go through that. . . my appreciation of U2 is bass-ackwards from 90% of everyone I know. . .

I'm actually a bit of a fan (more than many, quite a bit less than the die-hards), but I got into them at "Achtung Baby," loved "Zooropa" and "Pop". . . I love the other stuff too, but I actually really like the phase where most of their fans dropped out.

"POP & Zooropa" are some of their best work. Much better than thier earlier stuff (BOY).
