Auto Insurance
Even if State Farm was cheaper they are not an option with me. I just spent an entire week arguing with them and they harrassed me at my office for something that was their fault.

It's amazing what a great rack and (when necessary) tears will accomplish.

And just to get back on topic, I'm with State Farm, which obviously doesn't help you Jake.
AllState (two cars and renters). Progressive is good for a low initial rate, but frankly, after that, they suck.
I had Progressive and they basically doubled my premiums when I got a single speeding ticket... my AllState rep was like "7 over? Big deal." and gave me a rate comparable to the original Progressive rate.
I had American family when I was in HS/College... my agent had been my family's agent for 20 years so we got away with a lot of stuff (insuring my car for weekends, getting it fixed at "unauthorized" shops, etc) but the rates were never that good.
With the traditional carriers, a big part of it is who your agent is... IMO. Several family members have State Farm and love them, but their agent is really good. Don't forget that insurance companies exist to maximize their revenue and minimize what they pay out on claims, so they will always be dicks to you when you make a claim (after all, they're mostly run by lawyers and beancounters).

I used to have State Farm and did not have a problem with them. In fact, the reason I switched to State Farm (from whatever insurance I had before) was because I was rear ended by someone who had State Farm, and they handled the case pretty well.

When I had Liberty Mutual back by Boston I was under 25 had 2 tickets and was paying about $1300/yr with a $500 deductible and decent coverage limits.
Now in San Diego, I have unfortunately needed drop the S due to financial constraints. In CA with those tickets Liberty Mutual and AAA were both somewhere at like $2500/yr for my 04 Mazdaspeed Miata. I've switched my carrier to Mercury and they've got me in at about $1400/yr with a $500 deductible with middle of the ground limits. When my tickets clear off my record my policy is going to be less than $1000/yr.
An 02 WRX wagon cost about $1000 more per year than my 04 Mazdaspeed Miata for some comparison of California wackiness.
People speak highly of Mercury and Wawanesa here in California.
