Okay, checking in with some info... centered near Parkfield which is in the middle of NOWHERE... about 150 miles south of San Jose.

150 miles. Yes. Downwind...sometimes. Last time she blew her stack ash fell at far away as Russia. My college roommate and his family over in Eastern Washington had several inches of ash fall on their property.

When roughly 5000 feet of a mountain go airborne the devastation can be quite impressive and far reaching...

I suppose so. My impression of the St Helens notice was that it wasn't going to pop its top again, but rather there was a possibility of numerous smaller eruptions.
