Kitchens and baths are the two most expensive rooms to remodel. So much equipment/plumbing/built-in furniture that between the supplies and the labor you get kicked in the groin pretty hard.

It's a big sticker, but if you're looking at another decade in the house and it has to be done all at once I would say figure out how to do it well the first time. If you can find some decent way to do the job in stages (doubtful if extensive demolition is involved) that would be the best option...

Sounds like a definite all-at-once deal, Brant.

Chaz, any chance of financing this on a home equity loan while rates are still fairly low?

Well, that's what I'd probably do, Billy. We've already got a fairly sizeable equity line on the house, but I think we'd need to refi that (to up the available amount) so I'd have a cash cushion...

Equity credit is really meant for this kind of thing anyway. Still, that's a lot of freakin' samolians... We've got some serious thinkin' to do.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Self-respecting bachelors don't need much from a kitchen. Just a small refrigerator for beer and ketchup and a freezer for frozen pizza and french fries... and a sink to catch our crumbs since that is the only dining table we need.

I was later than usual getting to work this morning. One of our directors mentioned it and I simply replied "well, I looked and I looked, but I just couldn't find my give a $h!t this morning. that was what took me so long."

He just scowled.
