So beaning a batter in the head is supposed to be "civil"?
Or crashing into the catcher? Brushing the batter back because he is leaning in towards home plate? Baseball can't even decide on a damn strike zone! It varies from umpire to umpire, batter to batter!
Or "stealing 2nd base"? Or charging the pitcher's mound because the pitcher brushed you back?
Baseball had it's time in the spotlight, other sports (namely football and NASCAR) have drawn in more fans/viewers in the past decade or so.
Baseball is in danger of becoming like professional hockey. It's just not on everyones minds anymore as much as it used to be.

I suggest you call a truce... you will not win this debate on this particular subject with me.

Pitchers no longer bean or brush back batters nearly as much as they did before multi-million dollar contracts.
How about football? Roughing the passer and protecting the quarterback rules are ruining the sport. How about the ticky-tack pass interference rules? It's football! But wait, players can't touch each other.
There is more contact in the low post in basketball than there is in football!NASCAR is benefiting from the influx of female fans because of the pretty boy drivers. I'm not a motorsports expert but it sure seems like a waste of V-8s in those cars. I suspect they could use V-6s... but that would detract from the all important image of NASCAR.
Hockey was NEVER on everyone's mind. Baseball will always be front page sports news.

You and I both know that what you are talking about... Darin Erstad... but anyone who's knows anything about Baseball knows that's the exception, NOT the norm... unlike Football!

You have your opinions, I have mine.
I doubt seriously that I can change your mind or vice versa.

Baseball and ain't nobody gonna change my mind!
