Default Bears!!!!!!!

I just got woken up by bears in my yard I could hear them hooting, they sound like owls at the beginning and it turns into a bit of a growl at the end. I haven't seem them yet but they are right in the trees about 30 feet away. I'm hoping they pop out!

are they ever aggressive? or somewhat domesticated, in relative terms?

We have black/brown bears which aren't as bad as grizzly's which are very aggressive. But you don't want to push your luck with any large animal. What I have been told by the old-timers around here is never run from a bear always stand still as if you run it will definately chase you.

i heard the same. never had to experience it first hand though. i'd imagine it'd be hard to NOT run...

so do "your" bears ever attack domestic pets, livestock (if any), etc.?

If they come out of the trees I will get you a pic Mom! Alex I think I would have a very hard time NOT running too! I never hear of any bears attacking domestic animals that is usually done by fisher cats/coyotes etc. The bears usually hide UP in trees when they hear people coming and will watch you as you go by with you never knowing they are there. James I would guess some can be up to 200 pounds.

200lbs?
i think you're way underestimating

most large dogs (rottweilers, st. bernard, husky) can get 200lb+

i was thinking more along the lines of 600lbs? or are bears smaller than everyone makes them out to be?
