suuuuure...
what are you studying? where do you go?
yeah, i'm an accountant...i have a CPA license. it was a tough road getting it...a tough exam plus at least 2 years work experience in public accounting (aka auditing). it's a great experience...we have exposure to the CFOs and controllers of a company at a young age, but it's definitely not a long term career choice for a lot of people. 80% of everyone i meet at work leave within a year or two. it's true that everyone hates auditors and our clients give us a really hard time because we ask a lot of questions and pry a lot. but everyone in my company is really cool...we work hard and party just as hard.
i'm working on a company transfer right now from auditing to regulatory/consulting work in the telecom industry.
allen, your sister doesn't have to get stuck doing taxes. it's a big misconception that all CPAs do taxes. if she's aiming to get her CPA, she should try to pass the exam ASAP, then get required work experience (there are different requirements based on what state you're applying for) and get a nice and cushy private accounting job in the finance/accounting department of a large company. my friend passed the exam in one shot, left my company after 2 years and got a nice job at HBO as a financial analyst. she loves it. there are a lot of options for accountants, not just taxes.
ok...i think i just bored you guys to death...

allen, your sister should apply for an internship at one of the Big Four accounting firms (PwC, E&Y, D&T and KPMG). we had interns over the summer and we give them some experience on client work...not hard stuff. they get paid well, especially if they put in some overtime hours and we send them off, all expense paid, to Disney World for 5 days at the end of the internship.
