It is common knowledge in the UK that people from the south are wimps and they have an abnormally high population of homosexuals down there also. People in the midlands and further north are 'hard' and much tougher therefore we call southerners shandy drinking poofters.
If you did not know, shandy is a drink of lager or bitter with 50% lemonade to weaken it and is usually drunk by poofters.
Brighton is Englands gay capital.
