Default Consoles (PS2) and accessories

Okay. I am a console newbie, never owned one.
Now there are some things I like coming out so I think I'll splurge on a PS2 (or Gamecube?)

if I get the PS2, there's pretty much only 2 games that I'm looking to get:
Gran Turismo 3
Gran Turismo 4
Nothing else appeals to me yet, maybe NBA Street series, but maybe later.
Game Cube is a little more kiddy but I like the games on there, simple and to the point.

But here is my dream machine right now:
PS2
Logitech Driving Force Pro http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products...,CONTENTID=7226
Gran Turismo 3 and 4
It's kind of like an in house driving arcade.
but all of this is going to cost mucho, probably 400 dollars total. (150 for the PS2, 150 for the wheel and pedal, let's say about less than 100 for both games)
I wanted to get the Act labs wheels shifter and pedals, but now they're discontinued. maybe i can find some on Ebay.

1. Is the PS2 console worth it just for the Gran Turismo series?
2. Are there any places I can get pretty good deals on the PS2?
3. Are there any places I can get pretty good deals on Gran Turismo 3?
4. Are there any other good wheel/pedal combinations (for about the same price, hopefully less)
5. Is there a practice mode in GT3 for when I just need my fix of driving around?
6. Does GT3 support clutch action? If not I don't really see the point of me getting Act Labs
7. Is it realistic enough to help me learn how to drive on the track ??
8. do you guys think that the setup I have up there is pretty good? what kind of memory card would I need?

I think that's it. Thanks!

would I feel any differnce between the Pro and the regular steering wheel? it's a good 70 dollar difference. I wonder if it's worth it.

Get the pro!
My friend has it and it rocks... I'm planning to buy one before GT4 is out.

Costco or Sam's Club usually have good bundles on the consoles.
