heh heh...
Well...I'm trying to get over being mad about my aircraft assignment and trying to look at the possiblities it opens up. I'm thinking it will be easier to get to Europe with Blackhawks and then with my next reassignment I'll try to transition into Apaches if I can swing it. Or maybe I can go to Special Ops if it's something I decide to do.
So...my schedule for the next couple of weeks if half day learning about Blackhawks and the other half learning basic navigation in OH-58 A/C helicopters. It takes a ton of planning (about 4 hours for 1 1/2 of flying), but the flying is so rewarding! 50-200 ft above the trees with the doors off.
You have gotta love it! Probably the most fun I have had yet here.

Coming from experience, do not be disappointed.
Throughout my flying training, I wanted to fly fighters, and ended up getting "stuck" with helicopters.
After 3 years of operational flying, I wouldn't trade it for the world. Flying is flying, whether you're blowing stuff up in apaches, or flying #15 in a 21 ship air mobile in a blackhawk, its the most rewarding job you can ever have.
There are thousands of people who wish to be in your shoes. Don't take it for granted. And if you think 50-200 is cool, wait for 15ft skids over trees (or 50ft on NVG)
PS - you can't fly with the doors off in an apache

Hey Iuke and other pilots! Did you hear they landed a modified helicopter on the summit of Mt. Everest!

Luke,
I'm sure you will distinguish yourself regardless of the ride -- perhaps in spite of it. We're all proud of you regardless, Luke.

They will soon realize what we already know.......that our country is priveledged to have you defending us

Hey Luke. Last night the subject of saltpetre came up. It was about gunpowder but the conversation quickly turned to 'other' military uses.
So I have to know.... when was your last woody?

I didn't have an erection for over two months during basic training in 1980. And I was 17. I've always believed the food at the Air Force Academy had salt peter, but I don't really know. I'm sure exhaustion had much to do with it.
