I love it hear but I've always wanted to travel and live overseas for a bit. I think alot of it has to do with previous trips and having such a great time. My worry is that if I did move it wouldn't be the same as previous travels.
In all honesty the chances of heading back are very slim and I've been advised by the consulate that I'm wasting my time.

I guess unless you have a trade or qualification that is in very short supply in the states that there is no reason for them to grant you a green card ......
It is like us Poms, there are only certain professions that will allow us working visas for Aus.

I am not sure what trades are on the list at the moment .....
I am a Chartered Surveyor, which certainly used to be on the list .... I have considered a move to Aus on many ocassions, but the time/job/money/whatever has just never been right. I would consider moving there, but I don't think my wife would be happy to move any further away from the UK !!!
I had never considered moving to Japan until I was offered a job here ...... I had always wanted to work abroad, just to give me a wider view of the world, and loved living in Hong Kong. When the company I was working for there offered me a job in Tokyo, I decided that I had nothing to lose and everything to gain by making the move. [touch wood] It has worked out pretty well so far [/touch wood] so I am pretty gald that we decided to make the move

My parents have always liked to travel, so I guess I got a taste of it from them when I was young

With all the construction going on in Melbourne I would say your profession is still high on the list. Did you visit the Melbourne when you came out? Over the last few years they have transformed the city.
Working or living overseas is a great experience, it taught me to grow up and take responsibility bloody quick! I think if I found a decent girl here I would end up staying though.
