There are a couple of stories behind the celebration, but I don't really know them. I just know that one of the stories involves Mongolian occupation, and the other involves the moon (go figure).

There are many different types, but I THINK the most traditional one is made with lotus seed paste. The ones I have tried have always been very rich and sweet. They have salted duck egg inside them as well the more expensive the mooncake, the more egg yolks in it (a bit of a generalisation but never mind )



My favourite mooncakes come from Haagen Dazs
