So my patient called me up yesterday to asked me
(true story the names have been changed to protect the innocent)

she: doctor, before using this drop in my eyes do I "check" it?
me: well, it's a good idea to check it before using any medicine.
she: but you told me not to "check" the other eye drop before using it.
me: I did? No it's best to check to make sure you have the correct medicine before using it.
she: no I remember that you told me I don't have to check the other bottle.
me: really?
she: should I "check" both bottles then?
me: well, I think you should
(at this point I'm not sure we are talking on the same frequency) so I let one of my receptionist talk to the patient in her native language.
after talking to the receptionist, I got back on the phone and said........

 

yes, Mrs. ASDF, yes, please "shake" the bottle before using it...


(I felt so bad)

 

hehhe, she was chinese wasn't she....a lot of chinese have problems with "shae" sound. My ex couldn't say shade, sounded like she was saying shit.

 

language can be so much fun when dealing with people!
