I noticed this too, I just thought that being in the northern hemisphere everything looks mirror image to people from the southern hemisphere!

John - how long have you been using the Panthers? Any problems with the rotors? And are you using them on the street, too?

Never used Panthers but did a serious investigation some time ago on most reliable at the track. Resolved to get 'em for next track day. Hmmm. Have you heard about them causing rotor probs?

UnaBageler had a rotor problem last track day. Wonder if it's related.

I haven't had a chance/time, but let me see if we offer a higher performance pad for the stock caliper - I know AEM sells our pads in the aftermarket.

Ouch! Are we making stained glass now or what?

I may be a complete newbie, but so far, we've done 6 track days and 1 auto-x with our S and just used S02s and stock brake pads. I think they work fine until you either (a) start going to faster tracks, or (b) start driving much faster. Our first set of stock pads were broken down when they got changed, but we never had fluid boil or anything like that. I will say that we're both about 15 seconds slower than the fastest guys, so that probably makes a huge difference in wear.

Of course, I dream about being able to drive on Hoosiers or Kumhos.

I'll reply for 'Shell, as she's working, too...

Yes, she does beautiful stained glass work.

As for pads (and keep in mind I work for Nissin, the Honda brake system supplier) there are a lot of compromises made between dry/wet performance, brake gain, noise, dust, and durability. Pad thickness and backing plate composition have more affect on fluid boil than friction coefficients and thermal indexes.

The total thermal capacity of the system isn't going to change significantly unless you change rotors and calipers. Aftermarket pads will have better high-temp mu's (where is the damn ASCII?) and therefore more fade resistant, but can create more rotor wear or other problems (dust, squeal, etc.)

The bottom line is, unless you're dedicated to the track, pads help you stop faster as long as you are willing to sacrifice in some other area (wet performance, cold performance, dust, etc.).

I love my stock pads as usual (aggresive) street pads. My pads were GLAZED big time after laguna. i'm not surprised the way the day went... very hard on brakes.

Pather Plus pads *are* very dusty. I suppose the optimum would be to change them out to go to the track and back after.
