CRAP

United States law does not require a woman to change her last name when she marries, but 70 percent of all brides do.
Surprised and relieved!
I was surprised when I looked it up, too. I was willing to go so far as naming 3 of the most likely states that would still require it (hint: they're in the south).

Oddly enough, there are more laws about men changing their name to match their wife's surname, or hyphenating the two, than there are laws/rules about women changing theirs. So, yeah, still a nice double standard.

I was going to guess southern states as well. It never would've occurred to me there'd be laws about men changing their names...I dated a guy who wanted to take his wife's name when he got married. I wonder if he did.
