A 2013 study concluded that dogs, while pooping, prefer to align in a North-South direction.
Not to be relied on if lost without a compass. <

Right now being a former dog owner I never noticed that she pooped in any particular direction. She just pooped wherever she wanted to facing whatever direction was convenient.
