Good going Jack.

Happy (faux) Thanksgiving everybody.

The "Faux" is because the "Real" Thanksgiving is in October. ; )

Hope you all have something to be thankful for. Lord knows I do.

Please explain the October thing John??

Is this the same as our Harvest Festival ?? Can't quite remember when we used to celebrate that ?? We where having this discussion last night as to what you were all giving thanks for ! One of my friends suggested you were giving thanks getting the British out of the US, but that is 4th of July isn't it !!!

Cdns celebrate Tgiving in mid Oct. It's a harvest thing.

Americans celebrate now... end of Nov. Prob'ly harvest as well but wrapped up in some pilgrim/indian thing. Don't quite understand but it's a neo-religious thing. Sort of an American sectarian neo quasi religious thingy without any church.

Still confused.

Hi guys,
I'm no historian, but Thanksgiving is about the Pilgrims' survival, certainly related to harvest... Thanksgiving quite predates July 4th, James. I think the 4th might actually have been the date that the colonies signed the declaration of independence and initiated war against the king. Not too sure about that part, but definitely July 4th is about independence.

Anyway, the Pilgrims endured very difficult times when they came to the new world. Independence was probably the last thing on their minds. Here in New England, Thanksgiving's a pretty big deal, since Plymouth (where the Pilgrims first landed) is right here in Massachusetts.

Tallyho, guys.
