George W. Bush is a prick. He's looking for Rita
Here are a couple of questions for thought:
It seems we pretty much agree that taxes on the poorest are very burdensome. So, why not eliminate any tax on the first $20K or so of earnings?
But, is it equitable for some individuals to pay no taxes at all?

commentary is biased. 60% is a number - can't be biased.

I don't know where this idea of "I'm getting taxed so I'm not going to work" comes from.
If you're taxed you are going to still get some of your dough. Ninh if you were taxed at 75% of your income for Nov and Dec you'd still work since you need to keep your practice going. Same goes for the CEO or the Lawyer or even the rising Executive. All have to keep their business going and stay in the center of the hubbub. THAT is the American culture.

I put up with all this headaches b/c, among other things, one day I hope to make alot of money.
patient care is the same in both places.
If it's a low enough rate with a decent standard deduction, it's probably ok. If 33% of the population was exempt from taxes, the right-wingers would scream of class-warfare and probably drum up support to change that rather quickly...
Intersting find... So the argument that higher taxes would make us lazy and lower taxes make us productive. Well of course we aren't saying raise taxes (especially to 60%
) but check this out...

So this could explain why corporations in the US, Germany and Japan are so much less efficient than those of the UK and France. :tongue in cheek:

I'd like to rephrase: higher tax would make us MORE lazy...
[QUOTE=jedwards,Sep 27 2005, 10:33 AM] Well... a number can't be biased but it can be interpreted with a bias. It can also be wrong. Here's the 2005 income tax rates for France. High but none as high as 60% and the aggregate would be much lower than 43%
