Mandatory safety inspection for your vehicle every two years in Germany. Done by the TUV organsation. When done sucessfully, they put a sticker on your signplate.

Yeah, but the inspections are much more thorough compared to the CA DMV

I assume they are related to TUV Rhienland that has locations in the US as well? We have used them for their EMC chambers for RF testing and certification. Given the nature of what they do (Testing) I assume it is the same organization.

Yes. Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Body rust. Emissions, Lights, leakages, Safety belts, no warning lights in the dashbord. Cheking all electric things saftey relevant (Height adjustement of headlights for example)
When done, you get a sticker on the signplate. While some of theses guys are simply jerks, i am glad that this system works. All cars around at the streets are safe to operate.

Soemtimes it´s cumbersome to deal with them, because they also have to check and legalize (Paperwork) Tuning of your vehicle.(Wheels, Exhaust, Coil over suspension etc. ) and there are so much rules, that things start to get "Complicated" sometimes. But some of them are cool with a lot of knowledge and dealing with them is easy. You just have to find such a technican...

There are a bunch of TUV organsiations around here in germany, some per State, some bigger ones as "TUV south or TUV North" (germany). While basically the same organisaton, some of them also offers their service for customers worldwide.
You could hire them for everything. From safety testing and certification of a rollercoaster to a microwave oven.

They where founded in the 1800s for saftey testing of steam engine boilers. There where catastrophic explosions before.

This adds verisimilitude into how AMG and later Brabus were able to look at a perfectly fine Mercedes Benz engine and say, “Yeah, we can extract another 20-50% out of that.”
