You never know what you're missing until you transplant yourself somewhere, Andy. I had that wanderlust for years and sent myself out to the left coast for a while.
That said, I've found that it really doesn't matter where you are. In fact, it matters less now than ever. What matters is your friends and what you do with your life.

yeah, DC area is quite shitty. As Tom Clancy described it in one of his books, living inside the beltway eats away at your very soul. I do miss my friends from over there, but I have made some invaluable friends since I moved here as well.
And I don't have those damn DC vibes eating at my soul anymore
I don't miss Toronto and SW Ontario. I do miss the people but I've met lots of great new friends and the old friends keep in touch. Re Ontario: Beautiful places but I don't miss them... with one exception... where I spent my summers growing up... Georgian Bay.
