The Vernal Equinox, 5:00 PM PST yesterday, is that moment (everywhere in the northern hemisphere) when the sun, in it's apparent annual path around the sky, crosses the celestial equator from south to north. The point on the celestial sphere where the celestial equator intersects the ecliptic, the great circle of the celestial sphere that is the apparent path of the sun among the stars or of the earth as seen from the sun. This marks the exact astronomical moment of the start of spring.
