Zoe came out of surgery around 1:30 or 2 and so far she is doing really great. When the surgeons took her off the blood bypass her new heart began beating spontaneously!

The heart is a blood mismatch, which means some tests will have to be done to determine if Jenny can continue nursing. If there are certain antibodies contained in her milk, it will cause Zoe to reject the heart.

The heart came from a 4 month old, so it was too large for the surgeons to completely close Zoe's chest cavity. And as long as the sternum remains open, she will have to be on the ventilator. The doctors think maybe within a week the heart will shrink and they will be able to completely close her up.

Her hospital stay will likely be around a month, though it depends on when they will be able to close her up.
