It might not be muslims in general but arabic muslims. As you might recall I speak (or spoke Turkish). I learned from some friends who taught me a lot about the culture as well as the language.

Turkey is a secular muslim country and in Turkey last names are surnames and pass from father to son.

Interestingly the youngest son is the heir.
