Default Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I just had a carne asada soft taco, a relleno, and a chicken tamale for lunch at the El Portal. The owner, Abel Ramirez, is our friend. He grew up in Merida and the restaurant specializes in Yucatecan cuisine.

Which is nowhere near Puebla.

I had two tortas. One with Birria Di Chivo, and the other with Al Pastor.

Nothing like French influence.

The state of Puebla, site of the battle of Puebla, is the only place people in Mexico celebrate today. Most people in Mexico have never heard of Cinco de Mayo.

They understand Cinco de Mayo. It's the day before Seis de Mayo and a day after Quatro de Mayo.
