I was commissioned to do a work-up on what it would take to make the Viper competitive in a number of racing classes. We (Southwind Ent.) even built the first racing Vipers, but then Chrysler fvcked us and gave everything to the Frogs (Oreca), who then gained fame and fortune with their successes (Daytona, LeMans). That's been ten years now, and I'm still pissed about it.
Oh, the only cool, smart, fun guy on the Viper program? Neil Hanneman. And where is he now? On the Ford GT program, and he'll be working with Carroll now, too. Here's a clue - expect fun stuff from the blue oval

Wrong-o, Bent. The first Miata is directly from a Ford Ghia concept car (sorry, old age prevents me from remembering what show; maybe '83?)
I do, however, have this to report on the '04 Viper:
The top works like crap.
When you make a Michigan-left onto Woodward, you can light up the rear tires and keep it sideways all the way through 2nd gear and into 3rd.
The local constabulatory do not approve of such actions.
The car still seems vague - you can put the front tires where you want, but there's little or no feedback from the front suspension.
