Help!...Legal Advise need!
OK, I woke up on last Friday to find out my whole apt is flooded with water! It was like I was having a bad dream or someth...I test the water (literally) with my feet and it was no FU*king dream!!
Long story short, it turns out that the water valve blew and flooded my and my neighbor's apt.
Pretty much all my possessions were RUINED!! Books turned into cheese, CDs annd video tapes got wet etc. Having not much furniture and thus leaving things on the floor didn't exactly help this situation either.
I ask the manager if I can get compensated for the loss. His answer NO because I don't have RENTER'S INSURANCE.
My question:
Do I really have have RENTER'S INSURANCE to be compensated even though the flood was not a NATURAL disaster like real flood. It was due to the faulty valve blowing off, which I think could have been prevented with proper maintanence.
I have to also tell you that at no time did they ever say "hey, sorry for what happened." I guess it's like auto accidents, never admit your fault! Welcome to America...Whoorraaaaayayayayyay!!!

I would have thought that you would need to have insurance unless you can demonstrate that the damage was caused by someone else's negligence.
That really sucks man, but hell, it would have been one hell of a "wet dream" if it hadn't been true
(sorry, couldn't resist that one
)

Sue his ass off.
"Negligence" was the word that I was stressing when I was talking to my landload (bi*ch) yesterday. But she said there was no "negligence" on their part. According to her, the valve "just blew up" and there was nothing she can do about it.
But aside from compensation, from the get go, she was "accusing" me of not informing her of the flood 1st in the morning!....and "leaving the scene" after I saw them pump the water out of my room! Basically, she was "painting" me as some kinda low life ambulence chaser!
That's when I blew up and started my own sarcastic, nasty, humiliating comments about her, the incompetent maintanence crews, and the company! I was actually surprised she didn't cry. Everybody who heard me in the office was just speechless! At this point I just didn't give a Sh*t, I may not get no comp for my lost books, and other values, but at least I let them know that I don't like them at all.

In case you are wondering why I "left the scene?" I put all my possesions wet/dry on top of my mattress and kitching floor (which were pretty much the only fu*king dry spots left in the whole mo*her fuc*ing room) as they requested and went back to WORK (hello...it's not like I can drop everything I do because of this)!!!
The only reason why I didn't call them up 1st in the morning (which to me is 7:00 pm) was because frankly I was trying to figure out if this was beacues of something I did (how foolish of me to think that now)! And I've decided to gather my thoughts before I blow my bells and whistles.
In the end, it didn't matter because my neighbor (who apparently sustained even worse damage) called them up "1st thing in the morning!" Plus all my things were by the time they were informed of the flood because the actual blow-up happened sometime during the night before when me and my neighbors were asleep...which makes my manager's smart-ass remark about me leaving the scene even more irrelevant.
P.S. When I ask the names and numbers of the neighbor, they said they couldn't give away that kinda info. Standard response I expected but I had to try. I'll find out one way or the other.

I meant: Plus all my things were ruined by the time they were informed of the flood because the actual blow-up happened sometime during the night before when myself and my neighbors were asleep.
