I didn't install the XServer though, or for that matter, and X clients/programs. So no Firefox.

They've all got their pluses and minuses. I'm sure. I just like Debian's ability to install packages over the Internet. RedHat supposedly does it too, but those who've tried both thinks Debian's implementation is better.

I'm not sure if SUSE does it.
