You could be a preg nant or a nant preg...

Maybe that's how the word came about.

Girl: Daddy, I'm having a baby!
Father: WHAT?!
Girl: Yes, daddy. I'm having a baby with John!
Father: You preg nant! You're such a preg-nant!
Girl: I'm what?
Father: Pregnant!

I know, I know... I have too much time on my hands right now.
