Do you use a mileage calculator to figure these things out ahead of time? I tend to get inconsistent mileage from the same flight depending on the cost of the ticket.

I think it also depends on the fare type or whatever it's called. My flight from here to Chicago varies so much even though the actual distance never really changes. Well, except the one time we all got delayed and it looked like fireflies in the sky as we circled for an hour

Excel. Excel rules the world.

I use milecalc to figure out my routings, although Delta tells you when you buy the ticket exactly how many qualifying miles/dollars you're getting. Alaska's route values are a bit different, but I fly the same routes over and over so I have most of them memorized. LAX SEA is 954, SEA-MSP is 1399, SEA-DTW 1927, LAX-MSP 1536, etc.

But as Motoo said, some tickets pay different, and that was my screwup I realized yesterday... my ORD-SEA flight on Sunday is going to give 25% extra.
