one concern that a friend pointed out - there was the huge drive to get young people to register and vote for their first time, with the promise that their vote will make a difference. If they voted for kerry, they may be fed up with a system that did not respond to them (spoiled babies in a world of instant gratification), give up and never vote again. Which would be a huge loss for The People.
You may be right about them not coming back and that would be a tragic loss for the future. OTOH... people tend to stay involved where they have made an investment. Voting is often felt to be an investment. If they don't vote and don't like the result it's , "Whatever."... having voted and being dissappointed encourages you to fight harder next time.
