Fine. Last year was the first in 15 years where I didn't play "Sleigh Ride." Here's the deal with "Sleigh Ride." You know that nice, zippy, kitchy melody? Everbody plays some part of it in the band except for two people: the Percussion section and The Horns.

Now, Percussion, well, what can you do? The only consolation about that is, as Dan will note, you get to beat things. Also, the director will usually let you get a little wacky on the last verse (as the director is usually bored to tears as well).

The issue with the Horn part is that it is all off beats. That is to say, if there is a "boom-chuck" rhythm, we play the "chucks." The tubas, trombones, everybody else, gets a break. . . except for the Horns. I have 5 notes for 4 minutes of music.
