We used a 4130 chromoly frame, sourced from a Yamaha electric golf kart. Standard reinforcements with square tubing, etc.
The engine was like new on the inside; on the outside it looked like shit because it was sitting outside for a few years. Anyway, we totally rebuilt the engine, fully disassembling it, sandblasting the parts (where applicable) and reassembled it. The block, valve cover, and carb were painted Chevy orange, the rest jet black.

It's CLEAN. 
The golf kart uses a chain-driven solid rear axle (and suspension) pulled from a Kawasaki Mule 2500. The brakes are drums from a 1/2-ton Silverado pickup, and the wheels are from Chevy Tracker.
Yes, big wheels, but we relocated the suspension mount points to lower the overall CG, so now your ass rides about 5 inches off the ground.
Also a full roll cage with a small fire extinguisher, just in case.
