It's summer!
The Summer Solstice will occur at 8:01 EDT/5:01 PM PDT today. The Summer Solstice is one of two points on the ecliptic, the great circle of the celestial sphere that is the apparent path of the sun among the stars or of the earth as seen from the sun or or the plane of the earth's orbit extended to meet the celestial sphere, at which its distance from the celestial equator is greatest and which is reached by the sun each year about June 21 to begin summer.
