Jack in Asia
US border patrol. He went to Big Bend National Park by the Mexican border. And I guess illegal immigrants like to come in through the park, so border patrol actually checks on everyone exiting the park.
Two of my friends went camping there last week. One of them was able to get his papers faxed to him, the other is sloppier. Doesn't even know where his papers are, and somehow isn't able to get it from his employer.
This was Sunday night. Since he hasn't been able to produce his papers as of 3pm CST yesterday, he's currently being transported to the El Paso detention center.

Thanks Wicky, I hope so too.
John, I don't think he looks Mexican, but who knows. He's Asian, and looks Asian. I guess the problem was that he didn't have his complete paperwork. From what I heard, the border patrol people were more than nice to him, helping him look up his information in the system and all, but he couldn't (or wouldn't I don't even know now) confirm anything they find ("is this your passport number?" "I'm not sure", "this is the LIN number we found, is it correct?" "I don't know"
)
The person who was with him got really frustrated with him. It got to the point where we had our doubts as to whether he's really working here legally. It seems like everyone (border patrol officers and all) was trying to help the poor fellow except he himself. I guess he must have freaked out or something.

And this is the best part: He used to live in the Chicago area and owns a house here, but moved out to Decatur (about four hours away, I think) for work about a year ago.
He doesn't even know if his passport/paperwork is in Chicago or Decatur.
The good news (last I heard) is that his landlord in Decatur sent the border patrol people some papers, and they are supposedly satisfied with what they have.
The bad news however is that since he's already in jail, he'll have to wait some time (could be a day, could be a couple of weeks, could be more) to appear before the judge and see what happens. Since his papers are supposedly now in order, hopefully they'll let him go.
