I heard it twice... once from mom, once from dad... completely ineffective from mom, completely effective from dad. Not that I was a bad kid or anything...

 

I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that you have done less than five things that you consider "bad" Billy ..... either you were a very well behaved kid, or our definitions of bad are a mile apart ....

 

I was a pretty good kid too, James. But looking back, the price my parents exacted in the "molding" process was an enormous amount of fear and angst... My childhood was really not fun. My parents kept me at arms length... It's amazing that we managed to draw closer in adulthood. Part of me still resents the way they controlled me.

Wow ..... I pretty much grew up as friends with my parents from mid teens onwards .... of course my father had to put his foot down at times, and when he did, I knew that I had done something REALLY wrong ...... we are still good friends today ..... many of my friends from school/Uni, say that they wished that they got on as well with their parents as I do with mine .....
