anything that causes propogating vibrations can be considered radiation. Ultrasound, however, is not electromagnetic radiation. It's basically just a really high frequency speaker, which vibrates air/tissue, rather than electromagnetic radiation which is sent by emitting vibrating electrons/particles.

In any case, for comparison to electromagnetic energy, .75-3MHz (10^3 Hz) is in the ULF radio range, and as we all know it's safe to stand next to a radio transmitter As you can also see in the image, the harmful types of EM radiation are MUCH higher frequency.

The baby is safe

Ultrasound is a form of mechanical energy that requires a medium in which to propagate. It can be generated by the use of piezoelectric crystals. It propagates as a longitudinal wave in liquids and solids, and as a longitudinal and shear (transverse) wave in unbounded solids.

Medical applications, including diagnostic imaging and ultrasound therapy,

Speaking of that Lesley .....

I was looking in a shop yesterday that sells loads of really expensive stuff for people who love cars and have far too much money, and they had a full leather Sparco baby seat in there !!!!

that's crazy!!! Wicked though!

Hey if they live in a country where people drive remotely like they do in Germany....I'd feel much better with my child in something like that!

The driving here is much more sedate than in Germany, but people here seem to have a ridiculous amount of money to spend on stupid things, and there is an abundance of shops catering to those needs !!
