Led: I think that it all comes down to self esteem and nerves. I've always been on the shy side which doesn't help either.
Plus I think you guys had a good point....you just kinda lose your words, get tongue tied when you think you've met someone you could be potentially interested in
(which can happen to both sexes) maybe b/c that fact alone scares us? or we're scared of saying the wrong thing? or b/c the butterflies in our stomach have taken over!
going out to a bar dressed up and dancing is fun, but I think we all know, the chances of you meeting someone for more than some fun....are slim (of course not all, most people deserve the benefit of the doubt) - unless of course you're out for a little fun too

As you may miss out on a certain someone that like you all said maybe you were atracted to but were to afraid to talk to. I think you should just Go For It and take a chance. I lost someone very close to me at a very young age and I think that I see things differentley now because of it. Meaning you may be here tommarow and you may not???? So enjoy life and do what you can to make if fun!!! 
Sorry this is probably really boring and Dumb sounding but you asked. Now you know that 99.9% of the time Mom is jokin around W/all of yu but this is really how I feel
