Odd, is it not, how our excelto failed to address the corporate welfare program mentioned in the post to which he or she responded to? *
* In 1996 the right-wing Cato Institute estimated that corporate welfare programs (AFDC - Aid For Dependent Corporations) constituted 8% of the federal budget while social welfare programs (i.e., AFDC - Aid For Dependent Children) made-up but 1% of said budget. Oh what our reactionaries ignore.

Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation. It therefore occurs when there is a need to accommodate new ideas, and it may be necessary for it to develop so that we become "open" to them. Neighbour (1992) makes the generation of appropriate dissonance into a major feature of tutorial (and other) teaching: he shows how to drive this kind of intellectual wedge between learners' current beliefs and "reality".

Never would I cast a vote in favor of Dr. Dean nor any other Democratic politician. But the simply fact of the matter is that the man screamed due the fact that he couldn't hear above the din of the crowd.
Never will it cease to amaze me how our largely intellectually lazy and thus simpleminded right-wingers allow themselves to be led around like pack animals.
